Hard Realizations Learned from My Voice Coach

Having a pretty voice doesn’t count for much.

Counting on having a pretty voice makes you vulnerable to being used. Back-up singer is the best that can happen. He didn’t say that but that’s what he meant.

People in general praise you for the wrong things.

Vibrato is the perceived difference between shrieking and singing.

Got to have a stage character.

Listening is the most important thing.

Then pitch. Just like Mrs Patchen made us do.

Epiglottal definition is key.

Chest voice is the way to go.

You’ve got to hit all the notes, on pitch, exactly right, every time.

Memorize words to where they are muscle memory and you don’t have to think about them at all.  Ok, I knew that one already.
